Description

North Reef Investments Pty Ltd was established in 2005 while John Wimberley was Director of Tourism & Leisure at Ray White Commercial, Waterfront Place, Brisbane. Late in 2005, John established John Wimberley & Associates (JWA), a property advisory office focused on delivering research, marketing and advisory services in the tourist and retirement living sectors along the Australian Eastern seaboard.

The office developed proprietary expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as an effective tool in the establishment and management of property portfolios for Australian Real Estate Investment Trusts (AREITS), Unlisted Property Trusts and Mutual Funds.

2005 – 2008

JWA provided GIS research services and managed the acquisition program for NRMA’s ~$125million Tourist Park Fund. The project assessed ~254 tourist park sites on the New South Wales coastline for acquisition as part of NRMA Roadside Service’s vertical market integration in the self-drive holiday strategy.

2008 – 2012

  • Divestment of Mariner Financials’ Coastal Land Fund
  • Feasibility analysis and market assessment for CCIA Award Winning Environmentally Sustainable Development “Sunrise at 1770”, “Springs Beach – The Cove” and “Red Rock Estate”.
  • Advisory – tourism acquisitions in Queensland to RACQ
  • Post GFC, established Chilli Real Estate at Scarborough Qld

2012 – 2017

JWA was retained by Ingenia (INA) to provide GIS research services and program management for the development of Ingenia’s Land Lease Community Retirement Fund and Tourist Park Portfolio. JWA established Ingenia’s initial $350million property portfolio utilising proprietary GIS information to create “first move advantage” in the sector across Australia. INA is today an ASX 200 listed AREIT, the largest in the sector with ~$1.3 billion portfolio in Land Lease Communities and Tourist Parks across Australia.[1]

2018 – 2019

JWA successfully developed and executed the market strategy targeting mainland China tourism on behalf of the owner of Daydream Island Resort & Spa. This resulted in China Construction Investment Group’s acquisition in 2015 of the island resort. JWA focused on the capital markets in mainland China during this period with an interest in Australian tourism and retirement.

Today

JWA focuses on the acquisition and development of Land Lease Retirement Communities in Queensland.
